Historical Park 20th Century Veterans Children’s Museum Fort Cody Bailey Yard

If you’ve never been to North Platte, Nebraska, you don’t know what you’re missing. A wealth of wonderful attractions is waiting for you just a few miles from our centrally–located hotel. Take a step back in time to witness the former home of the wild Wild West man himself, William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody or spend a quiet afternoon fishing on peaceful Lake Maloney. Buffalo Bill Ranch State Historical Park. North Platte was the hometown of the man who made the Wild West famous–William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody. The legacy of the life and times of this colorful showman, army scout and buffalo hunter lives on at Buffalo Bill Ranch State Historical Park. Cody’s elegant Victorian house and huge barn reside on 25 acres of what was originally a 4,000–acre spread that Cody called Scout’s Rest Ranch. Lake Maloney State Recreation Area. The great outdoors don’t get much greater than Lake Maloney, an incredibly popular state recreation area south of North Platte. It features an enormous campground comprised of 132–acres and it is situated on a 1,000–acre lake. Facilities include 56 pads with 30 amp hookups, showers, dump station, water, boat ramps, swimming beach, picnic tables, grills and fish cleaning station. 20th Century Veterans’ Memorial Monument. Located in North Platte’s Iron Horse Park, the Memorial Monument is dedicated to all of the men and women who served before and during the twentieth century and those who serve now. NEBRASKAland Days. North Platte Area Children’s Museum. This hands–on museum is ideal for children and parents who want to experience the wonders of science, technology, culture and the arts in a unique and interactive atmosphere. Located in the historic Carnegie Library building, the museum’s exhibits range from the Reading Castle and Laser Light Room to the Kid’s Corral and Puppet Theatre. Dancing Leaf Cultural Learning Center. Discover a unique blend of educational and recreational opportunities in a reconstructed earthen lodge from approximately 800–1300 years ago. Fort Cody Trading Post. Nebraska’s largest souvenir and western gift store, Fort Cody is open year ‘round. Union Pacific Railroad’s Bailey Yard. Named in honor of former Union Pacific Railroad President Edd H. Bailey, Bailey Yard is the largest railroad classification yard in the world. This massive yard covers 2,850 acres, reaching a total length of eight miles, which is well beyond the borders of North Platte. Every 24 hours, Bailey Yard handles 10,000 railroad cars.
